Shopping for a General Contractor

Hello! I'm getting ready to hire a General Contractor.

I got a few questions:

What should I look/ask for when shopping around for a GC?

What is the best way to find the perfect GC for the project?

Any other suggestions?

My project is to add about 1800sf to a 1600sf 2 story building, making it into 3400sf. I'm in the Los Angeles area.
