Moving to Houston and looking to connect

Hello all, I am moving to Houston (77055... By the IKEA) in a few weeks. I have experience as a general handyman, but  am a complete newb when it comes to professional construction and would like to gain some experience. Not looking for Job; have one of those already, instead, I have A LOT of boring free time. Thought this may be the best place to start rather than standing outside of a Home Depot asking people like a creep. Thanks
