Boiler heat replacement/upgrade options

I just closed on a house today and the furnace was/is  an old boiler/radiator system.  It's shot and needs replaced.  I am going to be meeting with HVAC companies in a couple of days and have never dealt with this sort of system before.  I would love some input on replacement options so that I am prepared to talk with the HVAC companies.  What is the most cost-effective and feasible option?  Do they even still make boiler furnaces?  As always, any advice is greatly appreciated!
