Contractor soliciting Roof work to be paid by Insurance?

The other day a contractor knocked on my door and solicited me to see if there is enough "damage" on my roof to potentially file a claim under my homeowners insurance to replace the roof. The basic jist i took away from the encounter is, the contractor is looking to get a high paying job that the insurance company is potentially liable for with the home-owner only responsible for the deductible.

Has anyone heard of this, had experience with this, done this, etc etc?

I'm about to call past clients they have already done this type of work for to see if it is legit. Though if i have a chance to pay 1K instead of 10-15K for a roof, i'm willing to see what happens but not expecting much.
