Looking for lenders

My wife and I are looking for a decent lender near Putnam Connecticut.  Our agent recommended one too us   some time ago but we are not entirely comfortable with this particular lender.  

We sent him all of our information,pay Stubbs etc.... and he replied too us by asking us how much we make again? After we had already given him the information.  And then told us what he thinks we are qualified for...not what he knows but what he guesses.   

If anyone could point me in the right direction It would be so helpful
