HELOC on the only property I own ...but don't live in full time

I live in the city with my wife in an apartment owned by her and its in her name . I own a home in my name 2 hours away from the city . We use it for weekend getaways. But since its the only property I own is it still considered a second home /vacation home?... Asking because i want to renovate my property with a HELOC but most lenders wont extend HELOC on second home. They only want to refi at a higher rate. I think i know the answer here but need another opinion.
