Build a Brokerage vs. Join a Team
Hello!
My name is Justin Puetz and I'm a general contractor in Minnesota. I actually graduated college with a degree in real estate, believe it or not. Which allows me to apply for the Real Estate Brokers license right out of the gate. Honestly, the course they make you take was just a giant refresher from college, nothing really all that new that stuck out for me. So now that I have passed my exam and am a fully licensed broker, I'm wondering which path to take - Starting my own brokerage from scratch or joining an existing team. I can see how both sides would be beneficial but I'm wondering how many of you agents out there (with the entrepreneurial itch) either started on your own or wished you would have? Conversely, I'm curious about how many agents that started with a team and were simply blown away with all they learned as a result of being with that team?
It's a bit of an oddly worded question, but I think you get the point. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Have a great day!
Justin

Join a team. How can you run a brokerage and help your agents if you don't know how to generate business and make sales?
Most people who want to start a brokerage think. All I gotta do is hire a bunch of agents and take my cut and my firm will grow. Doesn't work that way. Way more money being a solo agent in my opinion. Yes at some point as a solo agent you will cap out but that cap is pretty damn high. Join a team learn the game, make money and once you proved to yourself you can last go solo.
