What State Should I get my Real Estate License From to Invest?

Hi,

I have a real estate salesperson license in Maryland that is expired but I could reinstate it.  I have no plans to invest in MD and I live in California.  

Can I access the MLS nationwide with my Maryland license or should I get the license in California/ whatever state I would plan on investing in?
