Racism in DC market

Jordan Max
Posted

Hello all I am a new agent to the DC. Market. I’ve been an agent for about 8 months now. Unfortunately I haven’t closed any deals or haven’t even been able to land/keep a single client.

Just to give some background.

I started with apps like Opcity. My first two months I had gained about 30 clients via lead apps like these. When it came down to meeting face to face: me( African American ) them (white), I would get fired after the meeting or they would say they are no longer looking.

This happened 30 times. So I didn’t give up. I discontinued the use of Opcity since the end users cannot see what the agent looks like.

I resorted to do hangers( very large hangers from vista print) And they had my face on them. I passed out several thousand of these( by myself) in about 2 days. No phone calls or emails from anyone.

Has anybody else faced this kind of problem in other markets ?

What should I do?

Thanks

@Jordan Max, based on your above comment, it may be a good idea to reach out to top performing African American real estate agents in D.C., as well as business groups within DC with many African American members.

If you believe the lack of success is due to race, then It would be a good idea to heavily network with successful real estate agents of your race to see how they made it.
