Commission Split Diff Commercial vs. Residential

Question "for a friend". :)  Had a discussion with the commercial brokerage arm of a regional broker today about coming on board with them. They said commission splits start at 50:50 and are on a rate scale. When discussing with residential brokers when I first got my license, the norm was a range of 70:30 to 80:20 and some with just a flat fee. I'm in Mass/Boston area if that makes any difference.

Is the 50:50 normal for commercial or are they an outlier and I should be looking elsewhere? Thanks in advance for any comments.

50/50 is a pretty traditional introductory  split for commercial brokerages. Most will have graduated splits. Meaning you start out at 50/50, and the more you earn, the greater percentage of the split you start to collect.
