Advice on being a Real Estate Agent while in College
Hi,
This is my first post here on the BP :). I am currently a 19 year old college student and in a bit of a dilemma trying to figure out what I want to do. I've thought about dropping out or taking a semester off to pursue becoming an agent. I am very passionate about Real Estate and constantly wanting to learn more. My plan is to enroll at Allied Schools and pass the exam. From there I was thinking about being an assistant/ intern to an agent and learning the ropes for a couple of months. Once I know how everything works find a broker and go from there and eventually start investing in RE and buying businesses.
I told my parents yesterday and lets just say it did not go my way. They advised to keep at least 2-3 college classes and maybe taking RE the course in a couple of weeks. I understand why they are saying that, but from what I've researched most people fail at being an agent because they were treating it part-time. My parents have dabbed a little in Real Estate and saying theres a chance it may not work out for me which I am aware of. I told them, I would never know unless I try.
I was also thinking about maybe just getting my AA instead of BA. I really don't like college and feel like it is not for me. After I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, it changed my view on everything and I do not want a stable job with income. I want to start a business of some sort. I do not want to be working a 9-5 job and be normal like most people. I want to be financially free and "weird" as Dave Ramsey says.
Sorry for the essay. Really unsure at this point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So I studied and passed my Real Estate Agent's license while I was still in College. Looking back I am so happy I did. I feel it is much easier to study if you are still in school mode. I am now a Broker so it paid off big knocking out the agents license early.
If you are serious about Real Estate I would recommend what your parents recommended and try to study for RE while you are still in school. Is your major business related? Maybe you need to change majors? Does your school offer anything in the RE field?
