Looking for Mentorship or A group of peers I can learn from.

Good day, My name is Louidji Joseph and I feel the need to be transparent. I'm an African American male who've experienced allot in life that you may have seen in movies or read in books. Yet I refuse to allow any of that to hender me from being the man I know I can be. While incarcerated for 2 years I reached out to many powerful figures and authors in the Entrepreneur world. Don M. Green Executive Director for The Napoleon Hill Foundation. Kevin D. Johnson who went to author a best selling book The Entrepenuer Mind. These two indivduals reached out to me and provides me with encouraging word and material. While being free and living in Miami, Fl I attended many seminars and training. Than Merrill Real Estate Investment course which I will be attending in a few days. To get to the point . I'm hungry to be successful and willing to be lead and coached. I know I can only do that with some friends and mentor who can feed that hunger. In my past I hung with those who seen preying on the weak as a means to an end. I chose to change that and want to surround myself with others who have that in mind as well. Thanks in advance to those who took the time to read my post and provide me with informative feedback.

Powerful post! 

You have the mindset, you have the drive, you'll need to find someone with similar attributes who is ALREADY doing or has already done what you want to do. 

My best advice would be to set your goals (1, 3, 5, 10, 20 year goals) and go out and meet a bunch of people/organizations to see who is the best fit. 

I know that sounds too simple and short... it is! This will take some time but the more you know about where you're going, the better you'll be able to identify the right fit for you. I spent my first 7 months as an agent at a brokerage that did little to help me set goals much less achieve any. I started networking (on Bigger Pockets, local REI meet-ups, FB, social events) almost 3 years ago when I decided to begin a career in Real Estate. I've spent the last month or so with a new brokerage, found a mentor, and have learned A LOT about this business and how I can reach my short/long-term goals.

Now, I don't want it to take 3 years til you find the right person/organization so I'd suggest you keep learning all you can and find ways to add value to others. Once you find the right fit, it won't take long for them to see that you're the real deal & take you under their wing. Theres a lot to learn in this business and it'll take forever if we try to do it alone or in the wrong setting.
