How long do you have to hang a license with a broker? [CA, USA]

I got my license (passed exam, applied for license, received license) a year ago, and due to personal reasons, I wasn't able to hang with a broker. I'm thinking of hanging with one now, and was wondering if there was a time-limit on these sort of things? I know there is a time-limit to renew the license, but unaware if there were limitations on the 4-year license validity.

Thank you.
