Hello everyone!

I am a louisville kentucky resident and considering becoming a real estate agent. I really enjoy everything I've been learning about real estate and I love to talk with people about it!

That being said im looking for a career change. I currently work as a paramedic and I've risen as far as I can go. I love helping people but I'm burning out. I believe in the old loving your job so that you never work a day in your life philosophy so that's what's turned me onto a career in real estate. I'm hoping I can get some solid advice before I start down this path.

First of all, do you guys enjoy your work? What's the best part of your job? What's the worst? I've also heard it's hard to make money in the field. While I don't doubt that's true for a slacker, is this true for someone who works hard as well?

My more technical questions are about licensing and employment. Who do you guys recommend for education and getting your license? What about employment once licensed?  Any companies to seek out or avoid?

Thanks for sticking with me to the end of this. I hope I'm generating some good discussion and I look forward to benefiting from the collective wisdom! Thanks again!

@Jared Yates I would not underestimate a good 8-5 job when starting out in REI. This will make it much easier to get loans and give a little more of a safety net from your beginner mistakes. I love my work at both jobs and they both are a major key into my financial freedom plan. The best part of REI for me is the challenge. There is always a problem to figure out and something new to learn. You can never stop growing in this field. The worst part is not having enough money for all the deals -.- lol. Like most things, in REI you get out what you put into it. If you hustle you will get deals. If someone can't make money in REI they are doing something very wrong and not learning from their mistakes. Go to your local REIA and ask the same questions. You will get an idea of what makes sense for your area very quickly and hear about the paths others have taken to get to where they are currently in REI.

I have no input on getting a license other than I choose to not have one. There is not advantage for me currently in having one and I just work with an investor friendly agent.
