Realtor/Investor how do I combine the two business?

I currently work for a brand name broker and have always wanted to start my own brokerage since most of my business is based off referrals and business that I get. I plan to purchase more investment properties and I'm tired of giving a percentage of my commision to my managing broker does it make sense to combine the two and start my own real estate managing office and investment company? Has anyone had experience with this? Pros/Cons any insight would help.

PS: I don't have experience starting a brokerage and am starting in commercial real estate now but have talked to a few people who have started their own business. And one pro I forgot to add is: you get more tax breaks for being a business owner.
