First duplex rental New Jersey

Jonathan Walters
Posted

Hello everyone,

I am just starting out my Real estate investing journey and looking for some ideas from people who have invested in New Jersey before. I believe a duplex where i rent one side and live in the other using an FHA loan is the place to start for me. Just looking for anyone who has used this strategy before and any tips you might have!

This is a great place to start with house hacking, but it's much more competitive in New Jersey than you might imagine. What county are you looking in? The best deals that are still "close enough" to NYC are in Morris County in my opinion right now. If you work in NYC and that commute works, or especially if you don't need to go to NYC, towns like Dover, Netcong, Rockaway still have potential house hack options with lower taxes than what most everyone else is shooting for in Essex, Bergen, and Hudson Counties.
