Best Texas area for house hacking

Rai Ud
Posted

I am looking to buy and house hack my first home (STR/rent individual rooms in the house). I am looking to purchase in the San Antonio, DFW, or *maybe* the Austin area but I am in a bit of a standstill because I don't know which market would do best for house hacking.

From what I've seen (on Ziow) so far, the San Antonio area is the least expensive but I'm not sure if house hacking/STR does well in this market.

Does anyone have success stories in any of these markets or advice for someone who is VERY new to all this and is maybe a bit anxious about getting it wrong?

Thanks!

Where do you live in relation to these markets? If you are BRRRing you will need a rehab team. If you are looking at turnkey options I don't know any in DFW beyond paying full value on the MLS. I am in the DFW area and do know that we have a decent range of prices. Outer lying cities may have fewer renters, but cheaper in cities options are often in undesirable areas.
