New to investing in the belleville IL area

Hey! my name's Dan and I live in the belleville Illinois area. I'm currently trying to buy a duplex but illinois taxes are killing me. I was wondering if there was anybody else who invests close to the belleville area and if so what are you working on and how long have you been investing?
