Looking for suggestions

Hello. We are a couple that own a home in TX (first property) and we planned to invest in a property this year (to eventually put on rent). However, I lost my job but we have enough savings to invest in a 2nd property (hopefully not a huge fixer upper) and keep going on regular expenses. My husband feels we shouldn’t risk using the money in case of emergency. Would love to know any thoughts. Do you think its safe to invest? Also since market is fluctuating and we are newbies.
