House hack duplex and collect income from both units

Jon Albar
Posted

Hello, I am reading this article about house hacking and I see that the author, who owns a duplex, rents out his one unit while AirBNBs a bedroom in the other unit while he stays in the sectioned off living room. As I understand it, the residence has to be "where you spend most of your time". If I buy a duplex, rent one unit, then post the other unit on AirBNB for 49% of the year, while living in it 51% percent, is that sufficient to adhere to the rules of owner occupancy?
