House Hacking paperwork?

Alex Castillo
Posted

Hi! I have a question about house hacking! My good friend of many years and his significant other are moving into my current home temporarily while they search for a home of their own, and my question is should I have them physically sign an agreement or paperwork prior to moving in? And if so, can I find a copy of a renter agreement online or should I contact a real estate agent? I’ve known this friend for years and trust both him and his partner so I don’t see much of a need for them to sign something but I figure I should do some research on the topic. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey Alex,

If you are asking then there must be something deep inside that makes you ask. If you are true friends with this person, they would be ok with this agreement and understand. Based on what you have said so far, yes, I would come up with some form of an agreement. BP has landlord forms that are state specific. You can take one of those forms and dumb them down to something super basic. With this, at least you will have some agreement in place rather than nothing.

Good luck and there is no harm in protecting yourself!
