Home Next to HUD Apartments

Hello, first post here and new to this real estate game. My wife and I are from Nashville area and travelled down to Birmingham Alabama a couple days ago to look at single family homes. One of the homes we found was pretty nice however it was directly across the street from a large HUD apartment home community. Our agent advised against buying because of that. It's listed for 56K, I offered $35K due to location and some repairs that need to be done. What's your opinion on a property like this? Would that HUD complex deter you from purchasing this home? We are good renting to Section 8 tenants or normal. Thanks in advance!
