New Guy Introduction

Daniel Perry
Posted

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but of all the choices this seemed most appropriate. First, a little of my history. I started in construction 32 years ago at 19 rehabbing and prepping houses for a pair of brothers that had a 30 home portfolio. From there I moved on to new construction in the residential sector and after a couple of years, I moved out on my own into light commercial and multifamily rehab (apartment building renovations). About 7 years in to that, I was working on a rather large common area project under the supervision of a commercial general contractor. The owner of that company enticed me to come work for him as a superintendent. For 10 years, I managed all sorts of commercial projects for them in the field. After 10 years of travelling, I decided I wanted to be home more and pushed to get into project management. I worked my way up to senior project manager with that company, but life changes and my family and I moved to Georgia 5 years ago. I worked for that same company for 3 years, back to traveling regularly, until they decided it was no longer working for them. I took a job here in Georgia working as a machinist while I was looking for the right construction opportunity. Unfortunately in March of last year, I had an accident at work and lost part of my index finger and I've been on workers compensation since. I have decided over the last year that I no longer want to dedicate whats left of my life to someone else and I'd like to take advantage of the experience I have in construction to help myself out. I have many years of experience in all aspects of construction from bidding and estimating through warranty. I do not have much experience with the financial or legal aspects of property management as it relates to purchasing, and owning rental homes. I'm hoping to find the answers I seek here after reading several articles, one of which suggested this forum as a great resource. So, here I am, ready to learn, and eager to gain the knowledge I lack. Also, if I can help anyone with my construction experience, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks,

Dan Perry
