Duplex Utility Split! Suggestions please!

Posted

Hello Bigger Pockets, I just wanted to put something out here because I have a question that I have found some answers to, but nothing that really has made me feel resolved. I just got my first rental property, and it is a beautiful duplex. Everything is great, accept that the utilities are all metered as one. Short of changing a lot of the electrical and gas around, there is no apparent way to make this split make sense. I do not want to pay for the utilities, as I feel strongly that it is the tenants responsibility. I was just curious what some other options I may have are. It is a 3 bedroom first unit, with a one bedroom above it. Please give me as much wisdom as possible! Thank you all!
