FHA Loan Appraisal - Two Means of Egress
Hi all,
I am in the process of purchasing my first home, a 4-Unit property. One of the units is an efficiency unit in the back of the second floor which consists of a galley kitchen, full bath and a bedroom/living room combo. On the opposite sides of the walls in the bedroom are the back staircase, the other unit on the second floor and an enclosed porch that is part of the other unit. On the other side of the fourth wall are the kitchen and bathroom. There is a long, short window just below the ceiling that looks into the enclosed porch. It is high enough so it allows in sunlight but can’t see in/out. The bedroom has 3 door to the back-staircase, the kitchen, and bathroom. There is another door off the kitchen that exits to an exterior staircase that takes you to the driveway.
So, I am wondering if this bedroom will be an issue for the FHA appraiser? Is it a problem if there isn't a window in the bedroom that opens to the exterior of the house? Can the doors to the back-staircase and kitchen be considered 2 means of egress or is this an issue? If this is an issue, can anyone suggest a means of fixing it?
Really want this deal to workout so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Evan
