First time home buyer - SFH or Multifamily?

Well it's finally time to move out of my parents house. I'm looking to buy a property and eventually rent it out. Multi families in my area are a bit scarce right now. Has anyone ever bought a SFH by themselves and eventually turned it into a rental property?
