How did you fund your first deal?

I want to know how a lot of you here on BP funded your very first deal? Right now I find myself waiting patiently for my rent lease to end and telling myself "I hope I am able to get to this amount of money for a down payment by the time my lease ends". As I am doing this I am seeing a lot of deals in my market that I would love to put offers on. I want to know if any of you went a different route than a conventional loan to get the job done and how that turned out? I've looked into FHA a bit and I'm exploring other options as well.
