House Hacking out of college

Hello Everyone!

I am currently a senior in college and have accepted a job in Marlborough, Massachusetts.  I have been listening to tons of bigger pockets podcasts, and reading real estate investment books.  I am interested in house hacking, but I have student loans, and have never been in the Marlborough area.  If I were to get an apartment, I would be stuck in a lease for at least 6 months to a year, and would not be able to house hack until that time is up.  Is there a way that I could start looking for deals even with me being hours away from the MA area?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Congrats on graduating and getting started right away!  I would check out the local forum in the area you're looking to invest in and find an agent there that is active and would be willing to work with you.  A 6 month lease would give you adequate time time research an area and hopefully find and close on a property so you're able to move in and start house hacking at the end of the lease.  Just make sure you don't overpay for the property because of your timeline, better to extend the lease another 6 months or talk to the landlord about going month to month rather than overpaying.
