Hello! Looking for some advice re: LLC vs. series LLC

Hello BP readers! My brother and I are looking to form an investment company. I live here in the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area, and he lives in southern California. We are looking at purchasing multi-family homes here in the DFW area, and are interested in setting up an LLC to insulate our personal assets from any property liability. We've just begun to research the differences between an LLC and a series LLC. Any thoughts as to which LLC we should use and why? Also, should we set up the LLC (or series LLC) here in Texas, or somewhere else (like Nevada)?

Thanks in advance for your help!
JA
