Driving For Dollars?

When driving for dollars what is the best way to find the value of a property before going in or talking to the owner? City Hall? a certain website? Also is it best to first get a List of properties I would like to live in, get the property address and picture of it and then do take that and ask for a long list of numbers then call. I would like to be prepared before i give away OTHER people's addresses.

Im looking to acquire my first home as a small 4 family when i go on realtor to look at and run numbers on the rental property calculator (the best i can) a lot of the prices are super high and 99% of them don't work out.

  Thanks for the help!
