Two separate LLCs? Tax and accounting implications
Good evening!
This is probably a question for a RE tax CPA, but I’m having a hard time finding a reputable one in my area.
We are just starting out trying to structure our rental and repair business(es?) properly. We primarily are BRRRRing with the occasional flip. We are also the primary GC on the rehab and reno work.
What is the best way to structure this? Even if we ignore the flipping side of things. Should we have two separate LLCs? One doing the rehab work, paid by the second, the "rental" LLC, that owns the properties? I feel like the "best" way to do it would be for the "rehab" LLC to charge the "rental" LLC for repairs and rehab, that way the "rental" LLC can write all of that off? Or should that all just happen under one umbrella? But if it is under one umbrella how would we best write off the labor for the rehab and repairs?
Am I thinking too far into this??
