thinking about wholesaling

I'm ready to pull the trigger and make 2021 the year I finally get into the rental market field and while I have great credit I can't seem to save enough to get the down payment covered. I was thinking about trying my hand at wholesaling to remedy that obstacle. If anyone has any experience with wholesaling I'd welcome hearing about good and bad experiences as well as any best practices. Also a big fear I have is that when I do reach someone willing to sell me an off market property how can I be sure not to pay too much all while respecting the seller and not offering so little that I never complete a deal? Thanks for any responses.
