Employer as a mentor? (Not a mentor request)

Good morning all,

I have been interested for real estate for many years but have always been of the mindset that I can't get into that because I'm not rich. My perception of real estate and money has changed through reading, and I want to make a move and get involved in traditional house hacking by the end of this year. My question: Is it a good idea to float this idea to my boss who is successful in real estate, and seek mentorship? Background: I work for one of his other companies which is not real estate related. He asked me to bring in 3 professional goals and 3 personal goals for my annual performance review, and I feel this is a clear opportunity to have a great mentor.
