Starting out in multi family properties in the military

Hi I’m new to the real estate game and looking to house hack using a va loan to purchase a multi family property. Currently shopping in the Alabama area since i will be stationed there. Any tips?

VA house hack is the best kind. If it's just you or just you and a partner, no kids, look for uneven units. This means bigger unit and smaller unit so you can be in the smaller unit and cashflow higher if you only need 1 BR or will potentially be deployed for part of the year.
