Searching for Comparable homes

Hey BP members, I'm pretty new to the Real Estate Investing world and have a question on comps? When searching for comps, how far away from the potential property do you like to venture? I've heard it varies based on markets and/or surroundings but if the property your analyzing is in a neighborhood that hasn't had another house sale in the last 6 months, where do you draw the line? Thanks in advance!
