Moving to USA
Hello All,
First of all a very big thank you for a wonderful forum and for sharing all your collective experience to help novices.
I am from Hong Kong, 32 years old and currently working in a pharmaceutical firm. My firm has offered to relocate to USA (Dallas, TX) in a year's time.
I have been saving for the past 4 years and currently have around USD 100K. My plan is to buy a home (as a primary residence) and also own a rental property (REI) in the first year of coming to USA.
Given that i will buy my house at least 6 months after i move to Dallas, my monthly salary savings would add up to another $30K. That puts my savings to around $130K.
I am planning to buy a home at around $200K-$300K range. That would mean a $60,000 down payment (20%). That would leave me with 70K balance. Of this i plan to have $10K reserved, to ensure at least 6 months of my mortgage as a buffer. That leaves me with $60K.
Now i have couple of options,
- Either buy 2 $100K SFR's or
- Buy 1 $200K SFR or
- Buy 1 $200K Apartment (high rise) in Central District Dallas.
Please note that i would like to keep some reserve for the rental property and hence not considering the entire $60K as investable amount.
I would really appreciate if you all can comment on my plan, what i need to look out for, any advice on which option to take and importantly if this will work out since i am a foreigner and hardly have any credit history in USA.
