How to get started House Hacking in Grand Rapids Michigan

Emily Haskin
Posted

I am positive that house hacking is going to be the absolute best option for my husband and I and we are on the same page in regards to buying a duplex for our first purchase. We did have to file bankruptcy just under two years ago due to massive medical bills and I keep hearing different answers as to having to wait 2 years and letting the bankruptcy season, or being able to apply right after the bankruptcy has discharged which it did in April 2019. We have minimal in our savings as we are living mostly paycheck to paycheck, however I have between 10-13 in a roth 401k that I would be willing to draw out and use as a down payment and my father in law has offered to give us 10g towards our first purchase as well. We obviously need to do a fha loan, but as first time homebuyers would we qualify for 0 down and be able to pull that roth money or the money from FIL to fix anything that may need to be updated. Do I have to wait any certain amount of time before we can start working with a lender? Is there a lender in my area that specializes in multi-family homes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks !
