Investors in AR... would love to hear how you started buying

I am starting out my real estate journey and after reading several books, including David Green's "Long Distance Real Estate Investing (I am also from the Bay Area where real estate prices are crazy!)," I've decided to start looking in Conway, AR. The reason I chose Conway, AR is because I have family that lives there -- "boots on the ground." 

I am looking to purchase a duplex to start. 

I would love to hear stories about how investors in Conway, AR or even AR in general started buying real estate properties. Thanks.
