Beginner Here: What is House Hacking?

Read a lot of forums talking about house hacking and that it’s a really smart thing to do, especially for a cheap rent. So I wanted to ask as an beginner just getting into real estate, first off what is house hacking, and second, do all people getting into real estate do house hacking?
