Form an LLC or not on first property?

My partner and I are looking at buying a duplex property as our first of what will hopefully be many rental properties to follow. We are undecided on whether we should form an LLC or not for the first property. What are the benefits/drawbacks of forming an LLC vs. waiting? Will there be unnecessary early expenses for the first property with the LLC?
