Turnkey Companies and House Hacking

Laura A Walters
Posted

Found out that a quality midwest turnkey company cannot sell to you if you are house hacking (living in the property for the first year).  Does anyone know if this is true of all turnkey companies?  Kind of a bummer, and I would definitely want to turn it over to them to handle property management after year one (as well as purchase additional investment properties from them after that first).

Just to be clear about what you are trying to do: You want to buy it from them, live in it, after a year have that same company manage the property as a rental?

I'm curious what this companies business model is. Do they flip or wholesale houses to investors and then run property management on them? They might not want to potentially lose the property from the chance of managing it and therefore hang on to it so it stays in the portfolio. I can't imagine that they "cannot" sell you the property, and I'm assuming it is more that they "will not" sell you the property.
