Blue Rocks Nova Scotia advice

Rachael Woodcock
Posted

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this site and new to investing in property. We live in Thornbury, Ontario and have a second house in Meaford that we are renovating for a rental (potentially a 3 unit house)

We have also just purchased a small 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage in the Blue Rocks Nova Scotia area. Purchase price was $160k We have never seen it but have had several people (our agent, home inspectors, property managers) tell us its very well maintained, neat as a pin, etc. Property manager thinks we can only rent it for $1000-1100 because of its size. While I understand this place doesn't exactly meet the 1% rule, we also thought maybe it could be a place for us to use as a home base when we travel there with our kids and rent it out seasonally or airbnb.

Does anyone in this area have any advice to give on this? I realize that full time rental would be easier from afar but than we lose ability to use it. Seasonal or airbnb is a lot more work and we'll obviously have to furnish it (I already have a vision for making it awesome! ;-) )

Any advice would be appreciated!
