Opening bank account with EIN - any tips?

Chris C.
Posted

Hi there - I've had a few rental properties in my portfolio (2 SFH and 1 duplex) for a few years now and looking to begin scaling. These have all been under my personal name and as I'm going to be making some moves on the portfolio over the next few months, I've gone ahead and created an LLC (incl. an EIN number) with an attorney.

The thought is that now I will secure loans moving forward under my business name and the homes themselves will be owned by my business vs my personal name.

I now need to go speak with a bank regarding getting a bank account setup before talking with my commercial lender (I have a few properties identified) and wanted to understand what banks and what types of accounts I should be inquiring about?

Are there any ‘gotchas’ I need to be aware of, or can I just open any standard business checking account with any bank?

Thank you!
