Highschool Sophomore Seeking Advice

Posted

Growing up in an South Asian (Indian) family it's very common for us to fall in the steps of our parents in IT, computer science, and medicine. Since I was a kid I've made it clear that I don't want to be in any of these and my dream is to go into Business. I love the freedom it gives you and I hate being told what to do. I decided real estate would be the pathway I took a few years back because it's super interesting in the way where you work like a detective to find the right property, buy it, rent it, take care of it, etc. It's just seems so fun!

I recently read Rich Dad, Poor Dad (I know my eyes would be rolling too ;) ) and started reading the ABCs of Real Estate Investing. I know a little a bit but really wanted some concrete advice on what I should do starting from now to get really ahead in the future. I'm obviously going to college but I'm that's not gonna be the most important part when learning to become a Real Estate Investor. Prolly going to do Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or something in that field.

So what I'm looking for is just anything that can help me get ahead. Books, Websites, Youtubers, Habits, General Knowledge, College Advice, Highschool Advice, Networking Advice, etc..

P.S. Thank you so much in advance for sharing anything you know! :)

@Avi Swain all the financial literacy can be learned without school! Education is absolutely free on the internet! My plan is to hire a CPA here shortly and let them take care of the tax stuff. Work on your business not in your business. The only issue I see with college is that it is expensive. Ask yourself how can you pay for college? Find an income producing asset and let it fund your life first before deep diving into debt. Education is free and all of this stuff is easily learnable. 50% of it you pick up as you go just by doing. If your heart is set on college have you thought about joining the military and doing a short tour? I joined the Air Force and I can personally tell you the G.I. Bill is an amazing tool. The VA loan is also such a great perk, my plan is to buy a quad plex with no money down in a couple years. You also gain the benefit of the VA so there's no health insurance costs. Something to ponder anyway! I can definitely say by participating in this stuff at your age you are definitely ahead of the game. It took me till the age of 27 to get my **** together haha.
