San Diego - making investment soon, want some experience! Help!

My wife and I will be making our first investment soon. She is a travel nurse and we have been traveling for a little over a year and saving everything we can. We are approaching our goal and I have been reading and learning a lot deciding what route to go. I definitely would love some experience with managing or even being involved in some residential renovations. I am very good with my hands and plan to do a lot of work myself on our purchase. We are currently in San Diego and I have nothing but time on my hands to learn. Pursuing knowledge over salary. I’m highly driven and willing to listen.
