I want to start out in holding Rental Properties, could use tips

Hello everyone my name is Brian,

I recently joined bigger pockets and have been doing some reading on buying and holding strategies, and focusing on cash flow. I have yet to purchase my first property and I am open to market suggestions preferably on the lower end in out of pocket costs as I am brand new to this kind of investing. Any knowledge or advice in buying rental property would be greatly appreciated. One question I had in particular was if turnkey properties are a good investment, or if I am better off starting out without them. Thank you all!
