Septic Tank In Different Location Than Plat

Found a property however the septic tank on site is actually in a different place than the Plat Survey. How to find out if this was an approved change? What department with the town to call (planning, zoning, etc) and what to ask them? Maybe perk test results made it move from original place. How to check that the move is ok and approved?
