I'm thinking about a career in Commercial Sales/Lending

My friends at BP Forums, I am only 23 and i'm making my way in Commercial Real Estate. I'm currently in Commercial Real Estate Tax but I want to move toward banking and investments. I have heard that in sales, you usually don't see that commission check for 11 months to a 1.5 years. I have heard you should have savings in place, a support system, and a network to call on. Please let me know about your thoughts, experiences, and advice.
