Looking to buy First BRRRR/rental

Looking for our first rental property, we are already pre approved with a conventional loan. We have been looking for single family homes, but we have been seeing more townhomes in our price range. Is one better than the other when it comes to rentals? We plan on living in the unit for a year and then renting it out. Any advice would be appreciated.
