College advice needed

Hi BP community! Hope you all are staying safe during these crazy times. Our son is 18 and is graduating from HS this year. He is very interested in REI, Business and finance. So much so that he has turned down several opportunities to play football in college in order to focus on his future dreams. The question in our home right now is whether or not he should pursue a business/finance or similar degree in college or start his future now. My suggestion is to get the degree to help form his foundation from which he can grow his business. Use the income from the job your degree provided toward investing. Use the degree to help manage your investments wisely. From there use both to build your business. I also believe it is very important to have a back up or contingency plan should the investment/business not work. In today's world a college education will open more doors and options than a HS diploma w/ real world experience will.

With that said I am curious what paths other experienced investors have traveled and what their suggestions would be to our son.  We would very much appreciate your input.  He knows what is goals are but is just torn on what to do to achieve them.  Thank you in advance for your input.  Take care!
